Innovative Teaching Practices

I am passionate about developing innovative and creative teaching and learning techniques. These include:

  • Projective Drawing and ‘Wish you were here…’ postcard writing – e.g. to investigate teaching and learning spaces and how they may be improved; and to gather data based on students’ evaluations of their modules. This method also led to my publication: Ward, J. and Shortt, H. (2013) ‘Projective Drawing as a Method of Evaluation’ Management Learning, 44 (5) 435 – 452 (ABS: 3*)
  • Lego Serious Play™ – e.g. student leadership identities/ a tool for change interventions in organisations
  • Photography – e.g. to explore the student experience and international students’ cross-cultural experiences of teaching and learning at the university
  • Culture Boxes – e.g. using objects and visual/ material representations of organisations
  • Textile Art – e.g. to help students discuss challenges faced during coaching and mentoring situations
  • Video and Film Analysis – e.g. to illustrate/ critically debate a wide range of organisational behaviour topics
